PEER - Publishing and the Ecology of European Research - is seeking a Project Officer

Göttingen State and University Library is engaged in several national and international projects on the development of infrastructures and services for electronic publishing and the implementation of Open Access. In this context, the European project "PEER - Publishing and the Ecology of European Research"; is seeking a Project Officer with immediate effect in a full-time position (currently 39,8 hrs/week). Salary is expected to be ca. €36.000 p.a. (depending on experience; German salary schema for public employees, TV-L E13/BAT IIa). This post is suitable for part-time employment and is offered on a one year term contract, until 30.11.2009, with potential for renewal.

The PEER project is a unique initiative funded by the European Union, bringing together the major STM (Science, Technology Medicine) publishers in collaboration with scientific research organizations and the library community. The project aims to explore the effects of systematic self archiving in digital repositories (the so-called Green route) in a large-scale impact study. As a result of these activities about 60.000 articles from 300 scientific journals will be made freely available in digital repositories over the next three years, and the effects monitored by behavioural, usage and economic research programmes.

Minimum requirements:

  • A Master's degree in Library and Information Studies or relevant field of study
  • Familiarity with Open Access publishing and digital repositories
  • Experience of advocacy and awareness programmes
  • Demonstrable knowledge website management
  • Ability to work in a team-based networked environment
  • High level of interpersonal and English-language communication skills, both written and oral

Advantages:

  • Willingness to travel within Europe
  • German language skills are desirable but not required.
