Personnel Required when Building Institutional Repositories

Institutions vary greatly in how the work of the repository is distributed across departments. Some institutions use their repository to fulfil additional functions, for example as a publications database. Hence staff requirements will depend both on the remit of the repository and skills and resources already available within the institution.

In some repositories the skills, knowledge and abilities required may be expected of an individual repository post with the assistance of general IT personnel. However, many
institutions spread the work over two or more posts.

In response to requests from the repository community SHERPA has compiled a skills set and description of the common repository roles/jobs needed to develop and manage a UK institutional repository. The document can be found on the SHERPA website and an area for your contributions is available on the DRIVER Wiki.
